Custom Commercial Counters: The Possibilities of Thermoformed Solid Surface

A reception counter helps set the tone for a commercial space. For this new project, Delorie paired dark solid surface with warm wood cabinetry to create a distinctive welcome, with rounded corners and subtle veining that add depth to the design.

Shaping the Design with Thermoforming

One of the creative possibilities of solid surface is thermoforming. This process involves heating the material so it can be shaped into curves, opening up design options beyond straight lines and square corners.

In this project, the curved exterior gives the reception counter a sculpted appearance, while the interior provides a practical work surface with cabinetry and storage below. The combination brings visual impact and everyday function together.

Details That Work Together

The charcoal finish creates a strong focal point, complemented by the warmth of the wood cabinetry. Rounded edges soften the counter’s substantial form, while the raised perimeter helps define the workspace.

These details show how a custom counter can support both the look of a commercial interior and the needs of the people using it.
